Parenting Groups and Classes

Parenting is one of the most complex tasks a person will ever undertake, yet there is no formal education or users' manual to guide one through the steps. At TCRC we offer several opportunities for parents to improve their skills and share experiences:

• FREE weekly drop-in group for parents of children birth to 5 years old. Learn best methods of discipline and up-to-date information on health, nutrition and resources for your child and family. Meets weekly on Wednesday mornings from 10:30 a.m. until noon . Call Priscilla at 226-5846 for more information…or just drop in on Wednesday morning.

• FREE parent support group for parents of adolescents. Even teens themselves difficulty understanding and dealing with their changing moods and changing bodies. Parents often need help and assurances as well as affirmation of their own self-wroth while dealing with the turbulent teen years. Date and time based on need, Minimum group of six needed. Call Liz or Priscilla at 226-5846 if interested.

• Setting Limits: A six-week course to help parents and other caretakers improve their ability to be consistent, firm yet fair in discipline. It's really quite simple once you get the "system!" Course is offered several times a year. Call Liz at 226-5846 for more information.

FAMILY NIGHTS & OTHER FAMILY ACTIVITIES

On a bi-monthly basis, TCRC invites the parents, grandparents and siblings of the students who attend our after school program to the Center for a free meal and fun evening. It's an opportunity to share in the friendship of other families while participating in craft activities with the children or watching a talent show or meeting with your child's teacher. A hearty meal as well as a great time is enjoyed by all. Family Night is held on the third Friday every other month.

Additionally, TCRC hosts other family events, such as the Family Fun Fest, where parent and children get to have fun together! All activities are designed so parent (or other caretaker) and child participate together. There's also the annual Car wash and the yard sale.

At TCRC we believe that FAMILY is key to creating an environment in which a child can thrive and succeed. We encourage parents, and all relatives of our students to become involved in their children's lives.
