Look Who Got Their 'SWAG ' On
Students ranging from ages 16 through 18 are got their SWAG on every Tuesday and Thursday at TCRC under the tutelage of Artist and Thomas University Assistant Professor of Art, Richard Curtis. SWAG is an acronym for Students Who Accomplish Goals.
SWAG is a new multi-faceted youth development program. The SWAGS are poets, artists, writers, athletes and some are undecided. This summer SWAG launched with an eight week program, wherein students received instructions in the areas of painting, photography, drawing and sculpting to create artwork utilizing recycled materials.
SWAG focused on expanding students understanding of human rights, community and global issues. The experience enabled participants to hone, develop, and explore their world through powerful mediums.
The goals of SWAG are twofold: (1) to provide a fun environment for learning which also prepares youth to meet challenges through civic engagement and the creative arts (2) to help young people prepare and position themselves for entrepreneurial opportunities and higher education.
At the end of the summer, SWAGs showcased their final projects. Check out the original SWAGS! Click here to view their masterpieces! .
