Community Wellness Center

Introducing….. TCRC's new Community Wellness Center

Helping adolescents and other under-served individuals make educated, healthy decisions regarding their physical as well as their emotional and mental well-being

The Community Wellness Center is a service component of Thomasville Community Resource Center (TCRC). At TCRC we believe in the right and responsibility of individuals to lead productive, healthy lives - fully educated and capable of making wise decisions that affect their physical as well as their emotional well being.

The new Community Wellness Center opened its doors for educational services in March 2005. By spring of 2006 the Center began providing expanded health services for teens that include physical exams, abstinence education, pap smears, new mother programs; STD testing, and counseling.

Additionally, the Wellness Center provides free cancer screenings on the first Tuesday of each month, thanks to a collaborative arrangement with the Lewis Singletary Oncology Center at Archbold Hospital. A similar arrangement with Archbold's cardiovascular department provides free cardiovascular disease screenings at the Wellness Center on the first Thursday every other month.

Wellness Education Opportunities

TCRC Community Wellness Center can deliver the following workshops to your school, workplace, church or wherever five or more people are gathered to learn about health and life skill issues.

  • How to Talk to Your Children About Alcohol/other drugs

A two-hour program teaching parents the risk factors for alcohol/other drug abuse and other destructive behaviors.

  • Abstinence Education

A one-hour presentation teaching adolescents assertive techniques for postponing sexual involvement.

  • Say No to Smoking

Two one-hour sessions to educate smokers on health risks of smoking and provide helpful ways to reduce or stop their smoking habit. (this program can be brought to your business)

In addition to the programs already listed, the Wellness Center offers curriculum health education programs to schools on many topics. Among them are:

  • Postponing Sexual Involvement

Five 50-minute sessions that help young people understand pressures influencing their sexual behavior and understand their rights in relationships.

  • Kid's Power

A nine-session educational support group for children of addicted parents. This program creates a safe, supportive environment for children to talk freely about their feelings; it also educates children about the disease of alcoholism and what is happening in their home and teaches problem solving skills.

  • Solving Conflicts Creatively

A 12 session program for K-6 helping students learn specific skills to respond creatively to conflict.

All of these FREE programs are brought to the school classroom upon request by teachers or school administrators.

Call Liz or Priscilla at 226-5846 to bring this to your school or church.
